MEG SIG
From MEGwiki
Pittsburgh MEG Special Interest Group
Head by Dr. Anto Bagic, and coordinated by Stefanie Hassel and Erika JCL Taylor.
MEG SIG is a special interest group for individuals in the Pittsburgh community. We have monthly meetings on the 2nd TUESDAY of each month, from 4-6PM in the conference room across from the UPMC CABMSI MEG Center.
The goal of our meetings is to maintain a tight knit Pittsburgh MEG user community, providing mutual support for our users through the combination of our relative expertise. Activities include journal club, speakers, and group discussion/troubleshooting of paradigms, results, analysis issues, etc.
PLEASE NOTE: As of February 2008 we will be meeting every 2nd TUESDAY ... see UPDATED Meeting Schedule
Materials
10/14/08 MEETING: Article Review
Wiltrud Fassbinder will be lead a discussion about the following article:
Georgopoulos et al (2007). Synchronous neural interactions assessed by magnetoencephalography: a functional biomarker for brain disorders. Journal of Neural Engineering, 4, 349-355.
9/9/08 MEETING: BIOMAG2008 Update
Those who went to BIOMAG2008 will be providing some highlights of our impressions and experiences in Sapporo.
8/19/08 MEETING: Practice Posters
The BIOMAG2008 meeting is in just a week, so those who will be presenting posters will go over them in the MEG SIG group. Posters will be presented by: Sameer Walawalkar, Stef Hassel, and Erika Taylor.
7/15/08 MEETING: Article Review
Stef Hassel will lead a discussion about an article comparing fMRI and MEG data: Muthukumaraswamy, S., and Singh, K. (2008). Spatiotemporal frequency tuning of BOLD and gamma band MEG responses compared in primary visual cortex. Neuroimage, 40, 1552-1560.
6/10/08 MEETING: Field Trip Presentation
Sameer Walawalkar will give a presentation of the FieldTrip software package, as a follow-up to Mike Cole's presentation of MNE Suite.
5/13/08 MEETING: MNE Suite Presentation
In anticipation of and preparation for Matti Hamalainen's visit at the end of the month, we will be devoting the session to MNE Suite. Mike Cole will be at hand to go over MNE basics & quirks, as well as incorporating MRI and MEG data, using freesurfer and mne.
4/15/08 MEETING: Trip Report
Dr. Bagic and Stef Hassel traveled to Helsinki to visit with Elekta. They will tell us of their experiences, and updates on the continuous head monitoring system.
3/11/08 MEETING: Research Presentation
We will have a presentation by Dr. Ted Huppert entitled: "Measuring neurovascular coupling using multimodal near-infrared spectroscopy and MEG"
12/13/07 MEETING: Research Presentation
We will have a presentation by Gustavo Sudre entitled: "Direct Brain Interface: From Neurophysiology to Neuroprosthetics".
11/08/07 MEETING: User Paradigms and The Deal with -trans
For the November meeting, we will give people who did not have the opportunity to present slides in the last meeting another chance. If you'd like to get some feedback on your design, analysis plan, or data, just make up a slide or two to present.
We will also be covering the details of a recent issue: the transformation setting in MaxFilter. If you are on the NeuromEg list then you have been receiving many emails about this. In the meeting we will go through as much of what we know about the problem, and also what it means in terms of which analyses you can do and which you should not (until the next software release early next year anyway).
If you'd like to present a few slides, please e-mail Erika or Stefanie to let them know you'll be preparing slides. You can either bring your presentation on a thumb drive, or email it to Erika.
10/11/07 MEETING: Presentation of User Paradigms What happened at this meeting?#10/11/07
For the October meeting, anyone who is interested in presenting their paradigm ideas or MEG results (preliminary or otherwise) will get a chance to present a few slides to the group. The presentation need not be long, and the results or paradigm need not to be complete. This is a chance to get feedback from the group, and likewise for the group to find out a little more about what everyone is doing. I strongly encourage everyone to come, even if they don't plan on presenting, so as to get the most benefit out of the meeting.
If you'd like to present, please e-mail Erika or Stefanie to let them know you'll be preparing slides. You can either bring your presentation on a thumb drive, or email it to Erika.
9/13/07 MEETING: Chapter 10 of Brain Mapping: the Methods What happened at this meeting?#09/13/07
This article gives a basic overview of MEG physics and techniques, without being overly dense for new users (as some find the seminal Hämäläinen '93 paper). Still, there is a lot of information in this chapter, and we will try to go over as much as possible in our first meeting.
